Teammate Spotlight: Meet Robert!

Robert is one of Apria's outstanding Respiratory Therapists, who spends his working hours providing clinical support to patients in the Indianapolis, IN area. He has been a Registered Respiratory Therapist and worked in the acute care field for about 37 years and has spent the last five years here with us at Apria. He took some time to tell us a little bit more about himself:

Why did you join Apria and what makes you stay?

I joined Apria because I had been working in the acute care setting for about 37 years, with the last 29 years being in a management role, and I really needed a change. Apria allowed me to be able to get back to patient care outside of the acute care setting.

I stay at Apria because I really enjoy the patient interaction I get with my role as a Respiratory Therapist. It's fulfilling to know that by me helping these patients in an outpatient setting, I am doing two things: 1) I am decreasing health care costs across the board for those patients and 2) easing the care burden on the acute care side by decreasing admissions due to exacerbations of the underlying disease.

Why are you proud to work at Apria?

I'm proud to work at Apria because this position allows me the time to practice the art of respiratory care to my fullest capabilities. I am able to provide patient care and patient education to help improve their lives at home. I'm also able to meet with MD referrals to explain the advantage of using Apria's services and I provide respiratory care education to Apria staff by working closely with the Account Executives so that they have a better understanding of therapy and support for the patients.

How would you describe your job to someone outside of Apria?

I provide support to people to help them be successful with their therapy! I am their advocate with their doctor. I communicate and recommend updates to their therapy so that the patient's changing needs stay met, whether that is CPAP for sleep issues or NIV support for their chronic lung disease.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I Love photography, I wish I had more time to do it!

I also love to travel with my wife of 40 years. Every five years we do an anniversary trip. Last October was our 40th anniversary and celebrated by taking a cruise around the Mediterranean. For our next vacation, we'll be headed down under to Australia in 2028.
